Co. Roscommon Vocational Education Committee (V.E.C.) on behalf of the Department of Education and Science 
administer mean tested grants schemes that offer financial support to students attending 
universities, institutes of technologies and approved PLC colleges.

There are three different types of maintenance grants available from Co. Roscommon V.E.C.  
There is also a special rate of maintenance grant for eligible students (See below)

INCOME THRESHOLDS

A brief description of each Grant Scheme should help you to identify the grant that you will apply for:  

 

 

1. Third Level Maintenance Grant  (TLT) 2009/2010:

Under the TLT Maintenance Grant Scheme,a means tested grant is available to eligible students who are
pursuing a 2 year National
Certificate or 3 year Ordinary
Degree course in any of the
Institutes of Technology.
(Courses Level 6 & 7)

2. Post Leaving Certificate Maintenance Grant (PLC) 2009/2010:

Under the PLC Maintenance
Grant Scheme, a means
 
tested grant is available to
eligible students who are
pursuing an approved PLC
course of at least one years

duration in an approved PLC
 
centre.  (Level 5).

3.  Vocational Education Committees Scholarship Scheme (VEC) 2009/2010:

Under the VEC Maintenance Grant Scheme, a means tested grant is available to eligible students who hold a National Certificate or Ordinary Degree (gained from attendance at courses covered under the TLT Scheme) and progressing to approved Honours Degree courses in third level institutions, including Universities.

4. Special Rate of 
Maintenance Grant 
(formerly known as Top Up Grant) 2009/2010:

All students who apply for a grant under any of the aforementioned grant 
schemes, will also be assessed for the Special Rate of Maintenance Grant.
